Description

6-Methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that can be used as a cancer drug. 6-Methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and is effective against certain types of cancer. 6MDA has been shown to bind to a pharmacophore in the cell membrane that is involved in cellular respiration, which leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and eventually cell death. It also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme nitrate reductase or by directly inhibiting the enzymes involved in bacterial DNA synthesis. The drug is not active against bacteria that are resistant to organic acids, such as Staphylococcus aureus or Clostridium perfringens.
