Description

4-(Methylthio)benzenesulfonyl chloride is a reagent for the preparation of elemental sulfur. It is also used as an antimicrobial agent and anthelmintic agent. 4-(Methylthio)benzenesulfonyl chloride has been shown to have anthelmintic activity against nematodes, including hookworms, whipworms, and pinworms. The mechanism of action is not clear, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit glucose uptake by the parasite or to inhibit the conversion of methylmalonyl-coenzyme A into succinyl-coenzyme A by the parasite. 4-(Methylthio)benzenesulfonyl chloride can be used in combination with other drugs to treat helminth infections.
