Product Information
N-(4-Methoxyphenyl)glycine is a small molecule drug that inhibits the synthesis of glycopeptide antibiotics. It is synthesized by the reaction of 4-methoxybenzeneacetic acid and glycine with nitroethane as a hydrogen donor. The compound has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. N-(4-Methoxyphenyl)glycine binds to the enzyme UDP-N-acetylglucosamine transferase, which is involved in bacterial cell wall biosynthesis, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. This compound also interacts with annexin A2, which may make it an inhibitor of apoptosis.
