4-[(Methylsulfonyl)amino]benzoic acid is a drug molecule that belongs to the class of amides. It inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by binding to the cell wall and interfering with the synthesis of essential proteins. This compound has been shown to be effective against gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enterica. 4-[(Methylsulfonyl)amino]benzoic acid also inhibits the growth of fungi by binding to ergosterol in their cell membrane and inhibiting their protein synthesis. 4-[(Methylsulfonyl)amino]benzoic acid is currently being studied for its potential use as an antibiotic in humans.
