Product Information
4-Methoxypyridine is a pyridine molecule that has been shown to form an adduct with methanol in a Langmuir adsorption isotherm. This compound has low energy and forms a covalent bond with the solvent molecule. It also has two hydrogen bonds, one of which is intermolecular. 4-Methoxypyridine can be synthesized from methyl nicotinate and n-oxide by replacement of the hydrogen atom on nitrogen with oxygen. The reaction mechanism for this transformation involves the formation of a covalent bond between the methyl group and the oxygen atom followed by protonation of nitrogen to form an n-oxide. 4-Methoxypyridine can also be obtained from pyridinium by removing a proton from carbon, forming a neutral ph molecule with two intermolecular hydrogen bonds.br>
