1-Methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboaldehyde is a deuterium analog that is an anionic compound. It has two stereoisomers, which are not distinguishable by X-ray crystallography. The racemic mixture of 1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboaldehyde has a greater stability than the pure enantiomers. This compound has been shown to react with ammonium in acidic solution to produce alkylating products. 1-Methyl-1H pyrazole carboaldehyde is unstable at equilibrium and decomposes when heated. It has been used in reactions involving oximes, where it functions as an alkylating agent and also reacts with carbonyl groups to form aldehydes.
