N-Me-Arg-OH is a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator that is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and may also be used to treat a variety of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease. N-Me-Arg-OH has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the mitochondrial membrane, thereby inhibiting energy metabolism. It also inhibits the production of TNF-α, which is a major factor in inflammation. The binding site for this drug is located on the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, where it inhibits acid transporter activity. This leads to decreased intracellular pH and bacterial cell death.
