Description:

Methyl 3-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethylthiophene-2-carboxylate is a bioisostere of methyl thioglycolate. It condenses with different heterocycles to form new heterocyclic compounds, and is hydrolyzed to form carboxylic acids. Methyl 3-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethylthiophene-2-carboxylate is used as a decarboxylation agent in the synthesis of biologically active compounds. Methyl 3-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethylthiophene-2-carboxylate can also be used to synthesize methyl thioglycolate from thioglycolic acid, which is used in the production of polymers for textiles and plastics.
