Description:
Methyl 2-cyclopropyl-2-oxoacetate is a nicotinamide coenzyme that has been shown to inhibit the lactate dehydrogenase enzyme. This inhibition of the lactate dehydrogenase enzyme leads to an accumulation of lactate in cells, which can be measured spectroscopically. Methyl 2-cyclopropyl-2-oxoacetate has also been shown to inhibit horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase and human erythrocyte alcohol dehydrogenase. Methyl 2-cyclopropyl-2-oxoacetate is used as a probe for the study of coenzymes and hydrogen transfer reactions. It has also been shown to be able to inhibit other dehydrogenases such as glutamate or choline dehydrogenases.
