Description:
5-Methyl-2-pyrimidinecarbonitrile is an anticancer drug that has been approved for the treatment of ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer. It is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits DNA synthesis by reversibly inhibiting thymidylate synthase, which is needed for DNA replication. This inhibition leads to the disruption of the cell cycle and eventually cell death. 5-Methyl-2-pyrimidinecarbonitrile has been shown to be effective in animal models against human adenocarcinoma (Mcf7) cells and colon cancer cells (colo205).
