Description:

4-Methylnicotinic acid is a molecule that belongs to the class of heterocycles. It interacts with acetylcholine, and has been shown to have structural similarities with pyridinium. The kinetic analysis of 4-methylnicotinic acid has been performed, which revealed a stepwise reaction mechanism. The desformylation of arecoline was also studied, and the catalytic mechanism was determined to be via a dehydrogenase enzyme. 4-Methylnicotinic acid has been synthesized from arecoline in an optimization process that involved chloride as the byproduct.
