4-Methyl-1H-indazole is a molecule that inhibits the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme. This enzyme is required for the maintenance of DNA integrity and stability during replication. 4-Methyl-1H-indazole has been shown to be effective against bacillus subtilis, which is resistant to other antibiotics. It also inhibits the synthesis of RNA by binding to the ribosome and preventing protein synthesis, leading to cell death. 4-Methyl-1H-indazole has been shown to have antibacterial activity against both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli.
