Methyl 2-methyloxazole-4-carboxylate is a synthetic compound that can be used as an intermediate. It is produced by the cross-coupling reaction of methyl 4-bromobutyrate and 4-chloro-2-methylbenzophenone. Methyl 2-methyloxazole-4-carboxylate has been shown to react with pyridine to form a 2,6 amide bond. The yield of this reaction was found to be high, with up to 98% yield obtained in some cases. This compound also reacts with phenylacetylene to produce a variety of heterocycles, including benzodiazepines.
