4-methoxy-3-methylaniline (MMA) is a chemical compound that has been used in the synthesis of dibenzofurans and diarylamines. It reacts with aluminium, chloride, and quinones to form carboxylic acids. MMA can also react with nitroalkanes to form symmetric nitropropane. The cephalosporin compounds are synthesized by reacting MMA with chloroform in the presence of potassium hydroxide. This reaction produces polyphosphoric acid as a byproduct.
