Product Information
- 2-Pyridinecarboxylic Acid, 5-Methyl-, Methyl Ester
Methyl 5-methylpicolinate is a pyridine that can be used in the preparation of cycloadducts, annulations, and cycloadditions. It can be prepared by reacting p-toluenesulfonyl chloride with methyl 3-hydroxybenzoate and methyl 4-chlorobenzoate. This reaction forms a diene that can react with various dienophiles to form different products. The regiocontrolled synthesis of methyl 5-methylpicolinate has been achieved by carrying out the Diels-Alder reaction between pyridines and oxides or chlorides.
Methyl 5-methylpicolinate can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of both 1,4-dimethylpiperazine and 2,5-dimethylpiperazine.
