1-Methyl-4-nitroimidazole is a molecule that has structural and functional properties similar to those of 1,2,4-triazoles. It is a nitro compound with a methyl group substituted for one of the hydrogen atoms on the nitrogen atom, which is why it is also known as 1-methyl-1H-nitroimidazole or methylnitroimidazole. This compound can be used in organic synthesis and has been shown to have antibacterial activity in the reaction mechanism with staphylococcus. The reduction products are hexane (C6H14) and ammonia (NH3). The molecular structure of 1,4-dihydroxy-2,5-dinitrobenzene was determined by X-ray crystallography. The nitro group of this molecule reacts with electron acceptors such as oxygen and water to form nitric oxide (NO), which can react with other compounds such as alcohol
