3-Methoxyisonicotinic acid is a flavonoid that has been shown to have antioxidant activity. 3-Methoxyisonicotinic acid has been shown to have significant scavenging activity against the radical DPPH, and it inhibits lipid peroxidation in vitro. Furthermore, 3-methoxyisonicotinic acid was found to have tuberculostatic effects in vivo. The structural analysis of 3-methoxyisonicotinic acid indicated that this compound contains three methoxy groups and one hydroxyl group on the A ring, and it has two methoxyl groups on the B ring. The chemical structure of 3-methoxyisonicotinic acid is similar to that of kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin. It also exhibits an NMR spectroscopic pattern with aldehydes at 7.4 ppm and 8.2 ppm, which indicates its aromatic nature.
