2-Methyl-4-nitro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole is a synthesized analogue of 1,2,4-triazole. It has been shown to have a high degree of selectivity for the benzene ring over other heteroaromatic rings. The compound exhibits a variety of geometries due to its methyl substitution and the presence of two nitro groups on the same ring. 2-Methyl-4-nitro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole has been shown to undergo butylation with dimethylformamide in the presence of anions such as acetate or chloride. This reaction produces primary alkyl compounds that are useful precursors for chemistry and nature.
