Methyl 2-(bromomethyl)-5-nitrobenzoate is a synthetic molecule that can be used as a probe in the study of enzymatic reactions. It has been shown to catalyze the conversion of luciferin to oxyluciferin, which is an adenosine derivative. Methyl 2-(bromomethyl)-5-nitrobenzoate also has synthetase activity and is able to form aromatic carboxylic acid from its substrate, phenylalanine.
