Product Information
(3-Methoxy-5-methylphenyl)methanol is an arylating agent that is used in the synthesis of tetracyclic and anthraquinone skeletons. It can be prepared by the bergmann reaction of 3,4-dimethoxyphenylmagnesium bromide with methyl iodide. The method was first reported by von Bergmann in 1881. This compound is also useful as a starting material for the synthesis of enediyne compounds. Enediynes are highly reactive and have been used as dienes and diynes in organic chemistry to form cyclic structures. They are also used as catalysts in organic reactions such as the Diels-Alder reaction or the Michael addition.
