Methyl 5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylate is a drug substance that inhibits the tyrosine kinase activity of β-cells and has been shown to inhibit the endoplasmic reticulum stress response. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis in leukemia cells. Methyl 5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylate is also an insensitive inhibitor of protein synthesis and retards the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting cycle analysis.
