Product Information
Methyl 3-bromo-4-formylbenzoate is a diastereoselective and efficient method for the synthesis of substituted aryl-substituted tetrahydroquinolines. This compound is prepared by reacting an aromatic aldehyde with methyl 4-formylbenzoate in the presence of base, followed by selective bromination of one of the two possible ortho methyl groups on the benzoic acid moiety. Methyl 3-bromo-4-formylbenzoate has been shown to yield high yields (up to 95%) when used as a substrate for cyclization reactions. The regioselectivity and stereochemistry of this reaction can be controlled by using different substituents on the aromatic ring.
