6-Methylpyrazin-2-yl)methanol is a chroma, which is a type of amine that is colorless and has a strong, unpleasant odor. It is used in the manufacture of perfumes as a solvent and as a chemical intermediate. 6-Methylpyrazin-2-yl)methanol has been shown to be an effective model system for skatole, which is another type of amine with a strong odor. Chromatographic analysis of 6-methylpyrazin-2-yl)methanol showed that it can be easily fractionated by ethyl acetate, which separates out different components with different boiling points. The fractions were then isolated and extracted to identify the compounds present.
