Description:
3-Methoxypiperidin-2-one is a chiral compound that has two isomers. One of the isomers is a reagent for chemical reactions. The other isomer is used in the synthesis of drugs. 3-Methoxypiperidin-2-one can be reduced to 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde by sodium borohydride reduction or it can be reduced to benzyl alcohol by borohydride reduction. This compound can also be converted to cyclohexanone by alcoholysis or cyclodehydration with a strong acid catalyst.
