Product Information
- 5-Hydroxy-2-methylthiopyrimidine
- 5-Pyrimidinol, 2-(Methylthio)-
- Pyrimidine, 5-hydroxy-2-(methylthio)-
Methyl 2-pyrimidin-5-ol is an optimal solvent for reactions that require a strong base, such as the demethylation of chlorides and the reaction with nucleophiles such as amines. It is also a biopharmaceutical intermediate and has been used to synthesize terpineol. Methyl 2-pyrimidin-5-ol is used in the manufacture of antifungal agents and can be prepared by irradiation of a mixture of benzene, nitroethane, and sulfur chloride in ethylene glycol. Methyl 2-pyrimidin-5-ol reacts with dibutylboron trifluoride to form a boronic acid, which can then be converted into an alcohol or ester.
