Description

6-Methyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. This compound is an analog of bexarotene, which is used as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. 6-Methyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one has been shown to inhibit lipid biosynthesis in the liver by interacting with the ligand binding domain of the peroxisome proliferator -activated receptor alpha (PPARα). The NSAID also inhibits the production of prostaglandins that are involved in inflammation and pain. 6-Methyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one binds to PPARα in the ligand binding domain and prevents it from activating transcription.
