Product Information
- 4(3H)-Pyrimidinone, 2-methyl-
- 4-Hydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine
2-Methylpyrimidin-4-ol is a lactam with a methyl group at the 4 position. It has been shown to have constant UV absorption spectra in the range of 240 nm to 360 nm, and it absorbs ultraviolet light at wavelengths of 240 nm and 260 nm. 2-Methylpyrimidin-4-ol has been used as a fluorescent probe for purines and pyrimidines. This compound features an aldehyde group that reacts with sulphonates to form adducts, which can be detected using ultraviolet spectroscopy or photometric methods. The methyl groups are able to react with n-hexane, forming products that are soluble in this solvent. 2-Methylpyrimidin-4-ol is also able to produce photochemical reactions with guanine and glutamate by absorbing ultraviolet light at wavelengths of 240 nm and 260 nm.
