It has been shown to have anti-tumour activity against cancer cells, radiation, and hyperproliferative diseases. 1-Methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole-6-carboxylic acid can be used to deprotect benzylic amines and benzyl alcohols. Solvates of 1-methylbenzimidazole are also available commercially.
