3-Methoxy-2-Pyridinecarbonitrile is a molecule with antibacterial activity. It can inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. 3-Methoxy-2-Pyridinecarbonitrile has been shown to be bactericidal against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and S. aureus in concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 2 µg/mL in the absence of benzyl groups. The compound has shown an inhibition effect on the growth of pancreatic cells at concentrations of 100 µg/mL and higher (>1000 µg/mL). 3-Methoxy-2-Pyridinecarbonitrile also inhibits replication of HepG2 cells, which are human hepatoma cells that are commonly used as models for drug toxicity studies.
