Description

6-Methoxypyrazine-2-carboxylic acid is a hydroxylated analog of pyrazine. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the hydroxyl group of the enzyme, which prevents it from catalyzing the conversion of ethanolamine to morpholine. The substitution at the 2 position with a methoxy group enhances antibacterial activity. 6-Methoxypyrazine-2-carboxylic acid has shown a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against pathogenic strains, including Aeromonas sp., Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus.
