Product Information
Methyl 3,5-di-O-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-D-ribofuranoside (MBZ) is a reagent that converts benzyl alcohols to the corresponding chloride. This reaction is selective and optimized for the debenzylation of phenols. MBZ is also used as a reagent in the synthesis of 2,5-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinones by hydroxylation of phenols with hydrogen peroxide. The methyl group of MBZ can be removed by treatment with tetrachloride or hydroxylation.
