Description:

Methionine sulfoxide reductase is an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of methionine sulfoxide to methionine. The human methionine sulfoxide reductase gene, MSR1, has been mapped to chromosome 3 and is composed of 8 exons. Methionine sulfoxide reductase is expressed in various tissues, including liver, lung, kidney, spleen, and heart. It is also expressed at high levels in cancer cells. The expression of this gene increases with the progression of cancer and may be used as a prognostic marker for certain types of cancers.
