Description:
5-Methyl-4-nitroimidazole is a synthetic, bioreductive compound that interacts with DNA and RNA. It has been shown to inhibit multikinase enzymes by protonation of the nitrogen atom in the 5-methyl group. This inhibits the formation of heterodimer complexes, which are important for cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. 5-Methyl-4-nitroimidazole has also been shown to have antimalarial activity against Plasmodium falciparum in vitro.
