4-Methylpyridine-3-carboxaldehyde is a synthetic intermediate that can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of decarbomethoxynauclechine. This compound is synthesized by pressurizing an aqueous solution of methylamine and acetaldehyde in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The reaction takes place at room temperature and yields 4-methylpyridine-3-carboxaldehyde in isolated yield. 4-Methylpyridine-3-carboxaldehyde can also be used as a refrigerant in devices that require constant temperature or as an optimization parameter for certain chemical reactions.
