Product Information
- 4-Ethyl-2-methyl-1H-imidazole
- 5-ethyl-2-methyl-1H-imidazole
2-Methyl-4-ethylimidazole is a colorless, water-soluble liquid that is used as a solvent in the manufacture of polymers. It is most commonly used as an alkylating agent in the production of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid. 2-Methyl-4-ethylimidazole has been shown to have a high reactivity with sodium phytate, boron nitride, and hydroxyl groups. The reaction mechanism for this chemical involves nucleophilic attack on the electrophilic carbon atom followed by protonation of the resulting intermediate. This reaction rate is dependent on temperature, viscosity, and particle size. The activation energy for this reaction has been calculated to be 5.8 kcal/mol.
