N-(2-Methylpropyl)-3-nitro-4-quinolineamine (NPMQA) is a potential drug candidate that inhibits the growth of Leishmania, a parasite that causes leishmaniasis. It was shown to be a potent agonist at the human toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and TLR9, which may be due to its ability to stimulate inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNFα. NPMQA also has immunoregulatory properties that enhance the immune response by stimulating antigen presenting cells and increasing the production of antibodies. NPMQA has shown adjuvant activity in mice when combined with an experimental vaccine adjuvant, enhancing humoral immunity without any adverse effects.
