Description:

4-Methylbenzhydrylchloride is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in alcohols, chloroform, and ether. This chemical has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Lycopersicon esculentum, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Streptococcus thermophilus. The mechanism of 4-methylbenzhydrylchloride's antimicrobial activity is not well understood but may be due to the anions it generates. 4-Methylbenzhydrylchloride is also effective against fungi such as Aspergillus niger and Penicillium chrysogenum. However, this chemical does not show any significant action against Gram-negative bacteria.
