Description

(R)-2-Methylbutane-1,4-diamine (MBDA) is a natural product that has been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and is being researched as a potential anti-cancer drug. MBDA inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting bacterial enzymes that are involved in amino acid biosynthesis. MBDA has been shown to be effective against human ovarian carcinoma cells and some other cell lines. It also inhibits the growth of malignant tumors in mice by preventing fatty acid synthesis. MBDA is not active against filamentous fungi or oxidases from plants or animals, but it does have an inhibitory effect on ornithine decarboxylase from plants.
