The mesogenic properties of this material allow it to be used in the fabrication of liquid crystals. 3-Methylthiophene-2-boronic acid pinacolester has a transition temperature of about 135°C, which makes it useful for optical microscopy and as an additive in thermophysical applications. 3-Methylthiophene-2-boronic acid pinacolester also has semiconducting properties and can be used in advances in electronics. It has a high solubility parameter (log σ = -10), which makes it an excellent solvent for organic compounds with low solubility parameters (log σ >10).
