- N-Methyl-N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide
The sulfonamide is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of many other compounds. The sulfonamide is used in organic chemistry as a nucleophile, an electrophile, and to eliminate water. The sulfonamide is synthesized in the reaction between an alkoxide and a fluoride. The sulfonamide then reacts with another alkoxide to form an alkoxides complexed with the benzenesulfonyl group. This complex can be hydrolyzed by water or acid to release benzyne, which cyclizes to form the desired product, the sulfone.
