- Methyl 2-Chloro-1,3-Thiazole-5-Carboxylate
- Methyl 2-Chloro-4-Thiazolecarboxylate
Methyl 2-chloro-4-thiazolecarboxylate is a reactive organometallic compound that is used in the preparation of other organic compounds. It can be prepared by the elimination of methyl chloride from methyl 2-chloro-4-thiazolecarboxylate with an excess of argon. The product crystallizes as a white, crystalline solid. Methyl 2-chloro-4-thiazolecarboxylate can also be prepared by reacting magnesium and chlorine in hydrochloric acid or by the reaction of magnesium with methyl chloroformate. A preparative method involves heating hydrochloric acid with magnesium to produce a solution of methyl chloroformate, which is then reacted with thiourea to yield Methyl 2-chloro-4-thiazolecarboxylate. This compound is soluble in solvents such as dichloromethane and ether, but insoluble in water.
