1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinemethanol is a chiral molecule that has two possible enantiomers, one of which is biologically active. The active enantiomer can be synthesized from the racemic mixture by a number of methods, including the Baylis-Hillman reaction and carbamate formation. The synthesis of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinemethanol can also be achieved by reacting an aldehyde with pyridine to form an acrylate followed by cyclization.
