Description

4,4'-Methylenebis[n-sec-butylaniline] is an activated polyester that contains a reactive group, which can react with cells to form stable covalent bonds. It has been used in the manufacture of textiles and plastics. This substance is used in commercial products as a tissue extender and wet strength agent. The chronic toxicity of 4,4'-methylenebis[n-sec-butylaniline] was evaluated in rats by measuring glutathione levels, hemocytes counts, and weight changes in the liver and kidneys. The chemical is not considered to be harmful to organisms under short-term exposure; however long-term exposure may cause cell damage due to its ability to form stable covalent bonds with tissues.
