Product Information

Name:
2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)benzothiophene
Description:

2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)benzothiophene is a piperidin derivative that has been shown to have estrogenic activity. It was synthesized from 2-chlorobenzothiophene and 4-methoxyaniline. It has been used as a pharmaceutical formulation for the treatment of endometriosis, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)benzothiophene has also been shown to be effective in preventing restenosis following angioplasty by inhibiting muscle cell proliferation.
2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)benzothiophene binds to the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), which prevents it from binding with DNA, thereby preventing transcription and replication. This molecule also inhibits the enzymatic activity of acetylcysteine, which is an antioxidant that protects cells against oxidative damage by free radicals such as hydrogen peroxide or hydroxyl radical
