Methyl vinylether is a non-ionic cationic surfactant with the chemical formula C14H28O2. It is a polyvinyl ether that has a hydroxyl group on one end and a methyl group on the other. The phase transition temperature for methyl vinylether is -70°C to +10°C. This compound has two resonance structures: 1) an electron-deficient structure in which the oxygen atom is bonded to two of the four carbon atoms and 2) an electron-rich structure in which the oxygen atom is bonded to only one of the four carbon atoms. Methyl vinylether has been shown to be stable at high temperatures, making it suitable for use as a chemical stabilizer during radiation, such as in analytical chemistry.
