Product Information
2-(2-(Methylthio)pyrimidin-4-yl)-3-oxopropanenitrile (MTPM) is a chiral compound that has been synthesized in the form of a racemate. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of bacterial growth and is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. MTPM is also capable of inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. This inhibits the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
