It has been shown to react with disulfides to form alicyclic compounds as well as react with electrons, which leads to the production of free radicals. 2-Methylthiophene-3-thiol also reacts with functional groups (e.g., amines), producing a variety of products. In addition, 2-methylthiophene-3-thiol can be used as a model system for studying the effects of neutral pH on chemical interactions and reactions.
