3-(3-Methylphenyl)propionaldehyde is a catalyst that is used in the production of polyethylene glycol. It is homogeneous, and can be used in high rates of carbonyl reactions. 3-(3-Methylphenyl)propionaldehyde can be found in catalysts, such as rhodium complexes, or as an additive to increase the rate of reaction. 3-(3-Methylphenyl)propionaldehyde has been shown to selectively produce polyethers from styrene with a high rate.
