2-Methyloxazolo[4,5-b]pyridine is a hemicyanine dye that has been shown to be photostable and fluorescent. It has been used in the detection of DNA and protein as well as in the study of the kinetics of chromatin condensation. 2-Methyloxazolo[4,5-b]pyridine binds to nucleic acids by covalent binding to the N7 position of guanine. The chemical structure consists of an indolium group linked to a benzothiazolium group via an alkyl chain.
