7-Methylisoquinolin-1(2H)-one is a pesticide that is used as an insecticide. It is of low toxicity to mammals, birds, and fish. 7-Methylisoquinolin-1(2H)-one has been shown to be toxic to the circulatory system and in chronic kidney disease patients, it can cause nephropathy. The mechanism of action is thought to be related to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. 7-Methylisoquinolin-1(2H)-one also binds to zirconium oxide and cardiac catheters, which may cause aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
